I agree that the goal was to make it easy to hold one handed for long periods and all of the design decisions were made with that in mind. It looks like they did a pretty good job of that.
Splitting the battery makes sense to me. You can only read for so many hours straight and when you dock the reader to the case the small battery will recharge from the large one.
That decision is probably the main reason that it isn't waterproof. There is no way to protect the contacts between the reader and the case while at the same time having them connect and detach so easily.
That said, I think there is a major failure in the pricing of the Oasis. Just looking at the components it seems like it should be priced about halfway between the Paperwhite and the Voyage. By my thinking it is priced about double what it should be. (Three times in the UK!)
