Just for the sake of clarity (since you're new to Android), that 1 GB partition is only used by the apps you install - only the apps themselves. Any data your apps save goes into another partition. System apps use yet another partition (about 536 MB +/-). That 1 GB may be larger than you realize. Still, if you plan to install a lot of apps, follow Purple Lady's advice first. You can move some portion of some of your apps to your SD card, and without rooting.
