For a DIY'er, it is here now!! Just clean your Kindle with an isopropyl alcohol wipe (like an eye glass cleaner) to remove finger grease. Then apply a thin bead of silicone adhesive (available at any home center or variety store) around the screen bevel or edge and around the case seam. Will make for good splash protection and water resistance (maybe even waterproofing.)

NOTE: I have not performed or tested this idea. Just thinking out loud. I assume no liability if you do this and ruin your e-reader with water. I have good lawyers.
