If I had a beach nearby, a waterproof design would probably be high on my list as well. Advantage of waterproofing usually also comes with dustproofing. So good for both dirty and wet environments. As you don't intend to read under water, you will be fine. It protects against accidents, but leave it under water for longer than a half hour and you risk damage. I believe Kobo stresses that you can still fully use the H2O under water? But that isn't the intended use scenario you should be aiming for.
