The only foolproof method of having an image full page everytime is to have a seperate XHTML for each image. It is not ideal, far from it, but it is the only thing that works consistent. Also, if you want ensure that the aspect ratio is correct and that it is sized correctly on each device, regardless of the resolution, an SVG wrapper would be the best choice. That is also what most people use for a cover.
