The "dealing with B&N" problem was solved with Calibre. I almost never buy books from Barnes & Noble now (ever since they quit allowing you to download your books for backup). Now I just convert a book from Kindle format to ePub when I want to use the NST. (I also buy ePub books from other sites.) And, I do, still occasionally buy a book from B&N (not often anymore).
