Sorry to tarnish any hero-worship here, but history happened and some of us remember it as it happened. The severely restricted non-US bandwidth limitation just happened to coincide with a (quickly deleted by moderators) post by [
a certain well-respected member of our community] about how he refreshed a web page on his laptop (tethered via his kindle 3G) while travelling in China, and the full-sized full-color images on the web page shrunk to small greyscale images. I suspect an amazon bean counter had just received a 3G bill from China, and not much time elapsed between his dropped jaw and the new 3G restrictions. This was a sad side-effect of NOT following our MR guidelines to honor the amazon kindle TOS where it can actually cost them money, and we want to help them by making their products and services better.
