Edit: Do you still have 2 minute connections? I think stopping the powerd and netwatchd services in /etc/init.d might be the way.
It only monitors telnetd, not sshd nor serial port.

I intend to use the Amazon kernel and modules.
I will not be building a kernel unless it turns out to be needed.
