For the most part, cleaning up the formatting can help a bit but most of the large ebooks I have get their size from the number and size of images inside the book. If I sort by size, the largest 25 ebooks I own consist of 23 ebooks that are cookbooks with their collection of images, the Nikon D7100 For Dummies ebook and Fire In The Valley: The Birth and Death of the Personal Computer. Checking the internals, all of them are well under 1Mbytes for the text files, the remainder of their 40-220Mbytes size is images.
