Correct.
The original directions where pretty clear about making a back-up of what you intended to change.

Add 'revert' logic to bspatch so you can:
New File, Patch File => Old File

You can get the old firmware update files from the Amazon update server.
The 'HowTo' do that is a FGA.
You can open the update packages with KindleTool and script the reverting of the files.
I suggest that you copy out the current system image, and then mount it on a (Linux) PC to do the work more easily.
