I actually prefer the tap, as the always on is too battery intensive. I plan to use the Dot to stream workout music, so I don't care if it is off when the tuner is set to HDMI. It will actually prevent it from accidentally coming on, which my Echo does every now and then.
I love the cordless aspect of the tap, but the battery didn't even last an entire day. That means it would have to be on the charging station, eliminating the cord free aspect. So I have to figure out a place to use it sporadically. If the speaker was as good as the Echo, I might put up with the limited battery life, but it is definitely inferior. Don't know if I am going to keep it.
