Only firmware since version 5.2.something are 'full image' updates.

Everything earlier are 'partial, incremental' updates.

That is, they only handle a specific 'from' version and a specific 'to' version.

You changed the 'from' version on your Kindle.
Now you have to change it back using the backup image you made.
