Kobo aura froze

My wife's Kobo Aura suddenly froze while she was reading. It wouldn't respond to anything.

When I put a pin in the hole on the bottom and removed it, the screen cleared and the light near the on switch stayed on, but the screen did come on.

When I held the power button for 20 seconds or so the power light went off. Turning the power switch back on still did not restore the screen.

When I held the power button to turn it on an stuck a pin in the pin hole a blank unlit screen flashed on and off.

When connected to the reader to my PC via a USB cable, the power switch light came on, the unlit screen flashed once or twice, but my PC did not see the unit nor did any message come up on the e-reader saying it was connected to the PC.

Any suggestions?
