Very few native Brits seem to be able to do American voices well. For one thing, they seem to think, as you point out, that we all talk through our noses. And they seem to think there are only two American accents - Georgia Southern and Midwest Flat Nasal. Sigh. And remarkable, given the English awareness of accent as class and location in their own country.
One advantage to listening to SF -- no accent is wrong or required.
Speaking of which, I'm currently finishing up Elizabeth Moon's
Marque and Reprisal, read adequately by Cynthia Holloway. This is the second book in the author's
Vatta's War series. But I'm going to have to finish it quickly -- the newest book in the Foreigner series from CJ Cherryh,
Visitor, has released and I want to jump right in to it!
