Changing direction here slightly... I feel like a field reporter!
PW2 customer on Amazon review stated his PW2 started having severe battery drain "one month beyond 1 year warranty" He didn't associate his troubles with the update from 5.6.5 to 5.7.2.1 initially, but stated
Sometimes I would turn it off for bed and wake to find the reader totally dead. No screen of any kind. Charging would bring it back to life.
I tried Amazon support. Being one month past the warranty period the only option offered was to buy another one with a $15 courtesy credit
I asked him if his battery drain issue started after the 5.7.2.1 update and he responded that his new current OS was 5.7.2.1, and wanted to know how to get a newer OS. I posted links to Amazon OS update pages for his model.. he did a manual download and update to 5.7.3 the next day. He stated he would let me know about his outcome with the newer OS update...
I then requested to find out his PW2 model number, in case there is any correlation between battery drain and the storage 2GB vs 4GB since that is an obvious difference in PW2's (but I am sure not the only one). I walked him through getting to the "device info" screen and wanted only the first 4 digits of the serial to see if there is any trend to be followed...
Here is his answer back:
The model number of my Paperwhite is DP75SDI. The total device memory is not listed in the device info screen.
Hope this helps.
So far the battery usage seems to have returned to the normal pattern. Another day will give more information.
Where would the "DP75SDI" model number come from "on the device itself"?
I did an online search and that number is an Amazon number for the PW2, but on my PW2 2GB on 5.7.2.1, it is not in "device info"
1. Anyone on 5.7.3 who can check "device info" to see if serial number still appears there?
2. So far this customer has normal-working PW2 after it was given up for dead
Continuing to investigate (though if update to 5.7.3 fixes the battery drain, that may become an automatic recommendation for "mainstream" users)

My PW2 2GB on 5.7.2.1 which got registered 2 days ago and then was sleeping in airplane mode had no noticeable battery drain after 48 hours.
It now has the wifi turned on to test the "magic folder" to block OTA update and to see if wifi has any bearing on the battery drain problem. That unit cannot be JB'd currently so no "battery status indicator" can be installed to give a number instead of just looking at the bar meter
Hope this helps
