Unless they are businesses or collectors, or people filling in their "last month's purchase" (and not buy as much or anything the rest of the year), it's a bit hard to believe...
I mean 20+books per month, means you need to read at least a book per day, unless maybe smallbooks of a couple of pages, are been seen as a book purchase too.

Well, I have bought 278 books from Fictionwise in my first 6 months of having a reader. ~40 were short stories or novelettes. Maybe 50-60 were rebuys of pbooks that I have read. I have been stockpiling a lot from all the great sales. I have read 95 in my bookshelf. My overall savings has been 50%, including 6 years of membership. Once I get through reading everything currently in my bookshelf, my reader will have paid for itself.
I expect for the next 6-12 months my purchases will be quite low. Except if I can get some more ebook copies of my existing pbooks.
