AFAIK, the official KindleGen binaries for Windows, Linux and OSX don't require Java.
@Macsurfcat: If you need to generate MOBI books for KDP and hate the terminal app, you could also install
Sigil and my
KindleGen plugin.
It'll by default generate MOBI files with the same parameters as Kindle Previewer (standard compression, attached source files).
