brzvnrnd & exalted wombat - thx, yes, this may not be my cup of tea . . . coding. Plus, it's more of a visual thing. I've got some old books on HTML, but this will require too much hand-holding to learn online and the books aren't specific to this task.
I'll look for a teacher I can visit in NYC or vice versa as I have to <b>see</b> what they are doing.

If you don't want to learn all of the details I would suggest
Atlantis Word Processor described in our wiki. It can read and edit word documents and can produce ePub and using KindleGen mobi documents. You need not learn any coding.
