For the cover my suggestion is to see the cover: not all is good for SVG. If there are pictures, better is JPG. If there are flat colors, PNG.
SVG is nice, but if there are text (and fonts), Ibooks have *big* problem in SVG fonts. JPG and PNG could be a good choice. Please do not make a BIG cover. Usually I prefer to stay inside 140k, more or less. Older ebook reader could be stressed by too big images.
