You may consider disabling them -- such filters are ultimately completely ineffective at blocking access to undesired content. Most can be completely circumvented by accessing the desired site via a distributed cache system. For example, many filter systems seem to block http://www.suckless.org/ (it's a software development site, nothing bad), but let you access it just fine via the CoralCDN: http://www.suckless.org.nyud.net/.
