I'd say the downright largest set of sci fi books I've ever read would easily be Harry Turtledoves World War series but I can't remember page counts and it was actually 7 large books for the whole thing. I'm including Homeward Bound and the colonization series.

I did enjoy it and found the whole plot idea kind of neat (basically alien invasion which happens during World War 2) but as a read it's similar to "A song of ice and fire" where you are constantly jumping between different characters each chapter and there gets to be a lot of characters to keep track off.
