Won't work -- the Kindle tracks the data for sorting by "Recent" in the internal database (/var/local/cc.db on the system partition).
Try deleting and re-adding a book together with its mbp/etc. files -- you'll see the book gets bumped up to "most recent" regardless of where it was before or what was in the mbp file.
