In general this is an good idea, however, as long as you don't change anything it's perfectly safe to open content.opf.

That's what I thought, too, because Sigl won't let you assign the same semantics type to multiple files in ePub2 books, but in ePub3 books you can actually assign the same semantics type to multiple files. For example, you can assign
chapter to multiple .xhtml types.
