Both of those look OK. The % on the end is a bit strange, but it is probably the editor you are using representing some control character. I don't see it when I look at the files with Notepad++ under Windows.

The Kobo Desktop application isn't needed unless you want to sync book from Kobo and don't want to use the WiFi on the device.
