I do not think the app on the eink should be the core aspect. Eink is not fluid as lcd
Basically you use the phone normally, with the exception of using the eink for reading, emails, always-on notifications and data( number email received, whatsapp messages, call lost, data, hour, weather) then when the phone is almost out of battery you simply switch to eink and still can use all the core functionalities, that is a great aspect together with the sun readability. Said that it looks to me from the video, that is fluid to use this technology with performing hardware, much more than traditional eink readers( but is my feeling, I did not do any benchmark)
then....in the future..
If the technology will be accepted by the market, then from one side the eink will benefit of massive research and development efforces, and so will do the apps, for instance you will have google maps, without animation, but indicating with sensors how many meters you will have to turn left, right etc.( in this case the eink will be furnished with retroilluminated lights, so that you can read on the car and so on the synergies will grow at a point that we will have always more color eink screen efficient to see video and better defined lcd on the other side.. not a bad scenario for customers isnt'it?)
But in my opinion we should no consider how Lcd apps go on eink, in theory seeing videos in eink for instance could dramatically lower the life of the device
