I finally decided to do something about it and went into the Kobo plugins and rearranged the output file list so that epub was first. I deleted all the books on my Glo and re-sideloaded them. Hey presto! The books were all epubs. I moved on to my H2O and the first batch was fine, but ever since, no matter what I do, the books sideload as kepubs.

I went back into the plugins and unchecked everything but epub as the output format. The books still sideloaded as kepubs. Then I disabled the extended plugin and the same thing happened. What am I doing wrong and why did it work for a while? And how can I fix it permanently?

Oh, and I always eject my device properly. And FWIW, it tried with my Mini and the problem replicates.

Please be gentle and gear any help to a very low level of competency!
With the device connected (the device icon(s) will now be on the toolbar)
right-Click the arrow: Configure this device:
Change the preferred ORDER using the arrows on the right, remove ticks from incompatible formats

Why would you NOT want to use a KEPUB on a Kobo device? It has more features than the 'plain-o' EPUB
