In case anybody is interested, a batch of returned/refurnished Kobo Mini has turned up in Taobao e-market in China. Could be the same batch that was on sale by Kobo earlier. Search for "Kobo Mini" in Taobao if you can read chinese.
I have one, fully functional, for about USD40 (before oversea shipping). It comes with additional chinese fonts and KOreader.
If Taobao is not available where you live (they don't do credit card/Paypal), there are Taobao agent services that can purchase and deliver to you, or ask a chinese friend for help.
