Perhaps I should have specified that I rarely run into a new release ebook from a major imprint that was more expensive than its physical counterpart. I'm sure the specialty market is different (but then it always has been).

That's not value judgement, just an observation. Eclectic tastes are often pricier than mainstream ones--digital or physical.
