From your picture(s), that really bright spot in the lower right looks like an obvious defect...
That said, I have 2 PW3's and both have grayish "shadow cones" at the bottom of the screens, but the gray "blobs or clouds" are fairly even...
The important thing for me is whether these "normal" screen effects distract from the reading experience....
Again, I hope you are successful in getting a much better replacement PW3
