I always get so angry when reading stuff like this. A 40-41 year old who completes a bachelor has shown that he can start and complete a complex task, and is able to quickly learn new things. Someone like that often has 15-20 years of work experience, and has to work for another 25 years at least.

But no, at 41 you're 'too old'. Yeah, you might be too old to start out as a construction worker, but as a knowledge worker or some sort of managing position, you're not even halfway to your pension.

I'm doing a master, just because I want to, but sometimes I wonder if it's of any use. It looks like companies only want to hire people up to 40 and then discard them, except if you're some sort of big-shot manager, project leader, or politician. Then you can suddenly keep working until you're 78 and age never is a problem.

Good luck, and I hope the tide turns for you and your husband as soon as may be.
