@irreld: Then you're doing something wrong or using an outdated hotfix.
You have to use the "Upadte Your Kindle" link, rebooting won't work: it'll either delete the package silently, or fail with a particular error code (3? Can't remember, it's a terrible idea, don't do it).
The "invalid package" popup on USB unplug without even necessarily having time to hit the UYK link simply means the package is outdated.
On the other hand, if the updater does launch but fail with a U007 error, then it means you definitively borked the jailbreak.
