Up and Coming: Stories by the 2016 Campbell-Eligible Authors compiled by S. L. Huang (
ISFDB) & Kurt Hunt (
ISFDB) is a collection of sfnal works (mostly science fiction & fantasy, but maybe also some horror and other speculative in there) of Exactly What It Says In The Title, free courtesy of the authors themselves, many of whom have supplied multiple stories so that you can better evaluate their work.
Currently free, just until March 31st when the nomination period for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer (
Wikipedia) closes, directly @
S. L. Huang's website (DRM-free choice of ePub & Mobi available worldwide) with a
backup at the Writertopia community page, which also has more info on the award as well as links to the pages of all the eligible authors for this year, whether or not they are included in this sampler anthology.
Apparently this is done off their personal webspaces and the Google Drive backup has download caps, so please be considerate when picking up which formats you need if downloading direct, since the Mobi is apparently 4x the size of the ePub (and was probably converted with Calibre anyway).
And this has been the (late!) selected 3rd (non-repeat) free ebook thread of the day.
Because not only is it always a treat to receive sfnal freebies, it's doubleplus good to get a nifty and substantial sampler of their works from the authors themselves, who've presumably selected and provided their very best hopefully award-worthy work in the hopes of swaying the Gentle Reader to consider nominating them for said awards.
Enjoy!
Description
It’s HERE! Get over a million words of fiction from this year’s Campbell-eligible authors!
Up and Coming: Stories by the 2016 Campbell-Eligible Authors
This anthology includes 120 authors—who contributed 230 works totaling approximately 1.1 MILLION words of fiction. These pieces all originally appeared in 2014, 2015, or 2016 from writers who are new professionals to the SFF field, and they represent a breathtaking range of work from the next generation of speculative storytelling.
All of these authors are eligible for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer in 2016. We hope you’ll use this anthology as a guide in nominating for that award as well as a way of exploring many vibrant new voices in the genre.
This anthology will be offered as a free download through March 31, 2016 only.
