Perhaps you can trade in the dead unit with Amazon. I just did so recently and got $30 for a working one plus $5 for a dead one and notice that I had also received a $20 promotional credit towards purchase of a new Kindle to be automatically applied when I do so before the end of the year.
Is that sufficient a deal to interest you?
