I actually ordered a second tablet to try and the issue was almost the same with the same pen. So maybe the culprit is the pen which I bought from Asus directly.
I have the Note 10.1 and that one has the offset but much much less so it is bearable. The offset on the Asus tablet is not bearable to me.
The asus pen seems to offer more pressure levels but the down side is that it us heavier and needs a battery to operate unlike the wacom/samsung pens.

I have been using it extensively since I bought it for writing and drawing sketches and I am very satisfied with it. I actually think it's much better at handling the pen than my Note 8 was.
If the pointer is not just under the tip on yours, and you have the january update, then something is wrong with the pen or at least with the calibration of it on your tablet. Or, stupid idea maybe, the battery ?
Did you buy the bundle or the tablet and the pen separately ? Although that should not make any difference, I bought a second pen to be safe and it works exactly like the one I got in the bundle.
