The fact that turning it off and then on resulted in that cruddy black-striped display seems to indicate that you've had a hardware failure - probably of your display controller chip/module. You'll probably end up sending it in for repair. Since it's not a broken screen, if you're within the warranty period I suspect you'll pay nothing but shipping.
