I also read in bed to fall asleep. Very rarely do I read a book so exciting that it keeps me awake.
Practicing meditation has taught me to catch wandering thoughts and calm down. Ideally this should be done with full concentration before going to bed. You should try to find a nighttime routine that does not excite you but calms you down. Obviously reading shouldn't be a part of it in your case.
