@knc1: IIRC the thing @-uragan- is referring to is the message that is nagging users to register their Kindle (= login to Amazon account) and also takes up half the screen . It't there also for non-SO Kindles until you register it. The only way to hide it and make use of that space to display more book covers is to register your Kindle. So real register or the fake one using SSH/USBNetwork...

@-uragan-: Unless you have blacklisted Kindle (that can not be registered) I don't see the point of all that paranoia. If you must, create new email address provided with fake info and then use that email to create new Amazon account also filled with fake name and other info. Then register your Kindle to that Amazon account and from that moment you can just keep your Kindle in Airplane mode, to "stop Amazon spying"...
