Do a factory reset using the buttons first:

- Charge it for an hour or so.
- Hold the power switch in the off position for 20 seconds to force it of.
- Hold the home button down and turn the device on.
- When the LED starts flashing, or the screen changes, release the home button.

If that works, it will save you the trouble of opening the device. If it doesn't, try the image.
