They're the same device, just different firmware. Either can be reflashed with the other's firmware.
I'm afraid I've no opinions; my personal preference is for large-screen tablets for reading PDFs. I use an iPad. I have to read a lot of academic PDFs (I'm studying part-time for a degree in Egyptology) and for me, the iPad works well.
