When I look at the description of the Dot, Tap, and Echo on the Amazon site it specifically says "home" network for the Dot and Echo, but it toots its horn about internet and mobile hotspots for the Tap. The inference is that the Echo and Dot must be on your home network (private IP space) but the Tap does not. That inference may or may not be correct and until more information is forthcoming we won't know.
