With that old a firmware version on the device -
contacting customer service may be a waste of time.
They are only going to say: "Update to current firmware".
Which isn't your problem, it worked before, it should still work now.

Your problem comes from something that we haven't yet found the reason for.

The 'open in a new window' thing is probably a change to the file manager options on your PC.
Now there is a question I haven't asked yet - -
Did you have an update to your copy of Windows about the time the trouble started?
The Windows updater keeps a log of when and what was done, somewhere.
Another Windows user could tell you where to look for it.
