Sure a lot of self-pubbed authors sell full-length books for $0.99, but many also want $4.99 or more for a short novella.
I'll admit I did buy more directly from their site back when they had stackable coupons (or when the 30% coupons stacked with the 30% new release discount rather than cancelling it out). Lately I've been buying their books more from Kobo or Google Play.
I've rarely had problems with them, but on the few occasions there was an issue with a download or something, their customer service was always quick and professional. I also liked their funny Product Warnings.
I'm sad as I have multiple authobuy authors who stil publish regularly with them. They also made browsing their new releases and upcoming books easy, so it was a good way to discover new-to-me authors.

This is true. I too took advantages of their sales when they allow it stacked. I suppose promotion was probably the biggest issue. They just didn't know how to promote their books enough when it came to third party sellers.
Carina and other press started around that time seem to be becoming more and more in the background.
