I also disagree with the Kindle app having margins that are too large now.
They might have in the past, since I've just started using the app recently. But I find the margins on the Kindle Voyage, Fire, iPhone 6 + and Touch (5th gen) just fine.
I have Marvin and use it to read once in a while, but since it lost the ability to connect to Apple's IOS easily I don't use it as much. For a real beginner, I wouldn't recommend it right off just for having to learn how to load it. Later, when they branch out and want more from an eReader and want to play with loading options, then I'd suggest Marvin.
iBooks I haven't played with for a while, so have no idea if they've gotten any better since I last checked. I really disliked it then.
