We tried one of those spinners - and yes, the squirrels had a ball spinning ... ran down the batteries, and then ate the seed.
I'm trying old fashioned bribery - a ground feeding station with cracked corn, mixed nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. - and filling the song bird feeder with a mix of small seeds with no nuts ... so far the squirrels, doves, cardinals, crows, and other unidentified large birds approve.
