The
International Standard Version (ISV) is one of the newer English translations of the Bible. The New Testament was published several years ago; the Old Testament was published just recently.
According to the translation team, the translation tries to strike a balance between being literal (word-for-word) and idiomatical (which I understand to mean sense-for-sense).
I've done a little perusing of the New Testament part, and also done some other vetting of it. I have some reservations about the whole translation project and ISV Foundation, under whose auspices the translation was made. But, I think that the translation itself is a solid one--for one thing, it was made by a committee (this is very important--some translations are made by only one person) of scholars with good or better credentials. It has very high ratings at Amazon and GoodReads (at Amazon there are ratings only for the complete Bible, Old and New Testaments).
