Apart from buying a brand new Fire HD 10 and throwing this one away, or going through the agonising process of trying to get it replaced from a re-seller half a world away (Amazon doesn't sell the Fire HD 10 directly to Australia), trying a factory defaults reset is the last resort.
(BTW, my wife actually wants me to throw it away and buy a new one! No joking. She's heard enough about this problem. )
