I use the Fire HDX for reading, magazines, audiobooks, music and newspaper. Sometimes even surfing. It is harder on the eyes and can't be used in sunlight and is a problem sometimes with indoor lighting. It's no longer sold, but I'm just saying that a small tablet is really what you want. You won't be able to get an e-ink reader though as none of them have sound anymore (Kindle Keyboard only does text-to-speech and whispersync audiobooks, no music).
