Yes, I've tried both ways - via the preferences menu (checking/unchecking the boxes in the fields) & via the right-click context menu.
It doesn't seem to matter. The columns keep re-appearing for no reason.
I actually tend to use the context menu for a vast number of things but tried the preferences menu when all this started happening.
Still stumped.
