Don't feel bad, we still love you. Here, have a banana.

For Purple Lady it works like this:
- $5 promotional credit from reloading $100 of gift card credit using her Amazon Store Card.
- An additional 5% credit ($5) as rewards from the store card.
- No rewards on the $100 of Amazon merchandise bought with the gift card balance.
If she hadn't added the gift card credit, she would have earned 5% of the next $100 she spent. But now she won't because she earned that 5% paying for the gift card credit.
So
either way she would get $5 from the next $100 she spends at Amazon. But she can only get this $5
once, and can't get $5 (5% back on $100 gift card) + $5 (5% back on the $100 of gift card purchases). This makes it a wash, she would have been getting that $5 no matter what. Thus she's only coming out ahead the $5 promotional credit. Not $10 (promo credit + cash-back.)
Bottom line: It's still $5 free!
