It wasn't an add-on. It was free shipping, without mentioning prime.

I did complain afterwards, and suggested that it wasn't obvious that "free shipping" really meant "free35 shipping" (at the time). PERHAPS they've fixed it since. Or maybe I only imagined that it had said free shipping. The same item says $4.99 shipping right now. Cue Twilight Zone music ......
